The Golden Globes, considered the best reference before the Oscar nominations handed out right and left in Hollywood with some unexpected surprises, as the success of the Woody Allen comedy "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" and the dismal failure of "The Dark Knight "(The Dark Knight).
It was hoped that "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" "Frost / Nixon" and "Revolutionary Road" to gain a nomination for best film of the year, a contest in which there were questions about the names that would complete the list. Finally, "The Reader" and "Slumdog Millionaire".
With honey on the lips were the last of Batman, one of the highest grossing films in history, the return of Clint Eastwood or hard tragic political biography of Harvey Milk.
"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" leads the list of nominations with five nominations, as did "Frost / Nixon" and "Doubt". Four have gone to "The Reader" "Slumdog Millionaire" "Revolutionary Road" and "Vicky Cristina Barcelona", the only comedy on top of a list full of dramas.
"The Dark Knight" "Gran Torino" and "Milk" were left with only one nomination.
I will not go into detail with the list of nominations (if you're looking for, click here ), already known, but in the head and tail of awards that confirm the upward trend of some and the limbo in which they were other.
The face:
- The expectations are confirmed on "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" "Frost / Nixon" "Revolutionary Road" and "Doubt".
- It is dispel the questions about "The Reader", a film that is among the chosen year and had gotten good reviews despite not offering performance-both actors Ralph Fiennes and Kate Winslet are considered secondary.
- Meryl Streep is still the best actress, at least by the time regularly to get nominations. This year opt for best actress in a comedy (Mamma Mia!) And drama (Doubt), that only equals a double Winslet, although in his case for a lead role (Revolutionary Road) and secondary (The Reader). Streep has already gone on to become the most nominated person achieved in the history of the Golden Globes: 23.
- "Slumdog Millionaire" is consolidated in silence as the possible surprise of the year and would not be surprising that carry the Golden Globe for Best Picture.
- "Doubt" and "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" is in its genre-comedy-drama and movies with best performances of the year. Besides Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffma, Viola Davis and Amy Adams were nominated for a Golden Globe for best actor and actresses secondary. Javier Bardem, Rebecca Hall and Penelope Cruz were able to bid for their leading roles (the first two) and distribution (the last).
- Brad Pitt was cast among the nominees for best actor, as expected, although in my opinion make the treatment more than five hours a day which was subjected to Benjamin Button, ended up eating their interpretation. However, his co-star Cate Blanchett missed out on nominations, although it carries the dramatic weight of the film. Pitt's partner, Angelina Jolie, won the nomination for "Changeling." I did not like too much. Some would have preferred to Clint Eastwood instead of Pitt (I have not seen Gran Torino and I can not comment) and I had changed to Jolie Blanchett.
- There were no surprises in the best male performances, in short.
- Tom Cruise broke into the competition for his funny role in "Tropic Thunder", like Robert Downey Jr., this application was to be expected. Ralph Fiennes (The Duchess) finally won by the hand to Josh Brolin (Milk), while Hoffman and Heath Ledger took their respective nominations.
The Cross:
- The Foreign Press Association which organizes the Golden Globes turned his back on "Milk," "Gran Torino" and "The Dark Knight." While in the case of "Milk" was within the scope of what has come to define as a tape "too gay" (see here) , "Gran Torino" pointed to better results, given the fondness of critics by Clint Eastwood.
- It was confirmed however that the film is not so bad as had been anticipated this week the association of leading film critics in the U.S., which only evaluated the performance of veteran actor. Not so the film (see here)
- Collapse of "The Dark Knight." I imagine that many will be very disappointed. The film has many followers around the world, the mere survey that I launched in my previous blog USopinion showed that nearly 40 percent of the votes of the bloggers were for that film-production is the highest grossing of the year and why not say it, the best action movie of recent times. Only Ledger got the nomination to Golden Globes
Maybe the Oscar vote that the industry members and journalists, not trying to be derogatory, and that is my profession, too-more complacent with Batman.
