Wolf middling
By Fernando Mexia - Cinema - 10/02/2010
Universal's attempt to resurrect the classic werewolf for the XXI century is as little disappointing, if not a failure. "The Wolfman" does not hold or by intrigue, or his terror, nor by their emotions going, a "roll patatero". Of course when the baby was ill recently given birth may be asked, even though one would hypnotize the strong lineup with Anthony Hopkins, Benicio del Toro, Emily Blunt and Hugo Weaving, who probably will be willing to move on after this experience.
From the outside it is difficult to explain that the film has been so matrecha despite having the screenplay by David Self (Road to Perdition) and Andrew Kevin Walker (Se7en). Nor can it be cast all the blame on the director, Joe Johnston, who although not Coppola, Spielberg or Scorsese and let us titles like "Jumanji", it has shown that they can be managed on land and create great stress and fast paced action. Johnston in fact joined the project at the last minute to replace Mark Romanek. Read the rest of this entry »

Avatarizate!
By Fernando Mexia - Cinema - 29/01/2010
As a fan of "Avatar" I am, I could not resist the temptation to spend myself for the blue filter of the film. You can follow my example and join a community of neighbors of Pandora using this simple application. Possibly this is the freakiest post of my "career" blogger. Because I'm worth.

The world rejoiced in the new year applauded the entry into force of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between China and the ten countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). The media repeated elated that it was the biggest deal for liberalizing the third in population and trade volume.
But I feel that some of the signatory countries have little to cheer about. Especially the emerging economies of Southeast Asia with a large manufacturing sector but occupationally productively weak, like Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Philippines and Indonesia. They are painfully aware that they can not compete with Chinese exports. Complaints have already started to occur. Jakarta, which has gone furthest, announced that he was seeking an extension of one year, but then backed down. During the truce, almost impossible to get it, wished to renegotiate the tariffs of more than 450 products and help local industry to adapt. Read the rest of this entry »

The Oscar, a forecast
By Fernando Mexia - Cinema - 21/01/2010
Fernando Mexia, the pen.
I venture to predict the winners of the upcoming Oscar ceremony (March 7) although not yet know the list of nominees (to be announced on 2 February). These are not riddles, nothing further, but as things stand it looks like the presentation of the statuettes will sufficiently curtailed suspense.
I'll stop into detailed explanations, but at this point it is not unreasonable to bet on "Avatar" as an Oscar winner for best picture. Only "The Hurt Locker" and "Up in the Air" could, in my opinion, have some choice, but most likely the last of James Cameron to emulate the success of "Titanic", but without reaching the 11 awards. In October I wrote this post on films with the potential to be nominated, although it is true that right now the options of "The Lovely Bones" and "Amelia" are slim. Read the rest of this entry »

Spain
By Fernando Mexia - Journalism , Politics , Society - 11/01/2010
Fernando Mexia, the pen.
I would write a post about Spain, but decided to spare me avoid headaches, reviews and comments outrageous untimely. Some say it's cowardly, but when it comes to the motherland is an opinion as a weapon of mass destruction, you never know if it will explode in his hands. When exercising freedom of expression becomes foolhardy, you forgive me, I exit the forum achanto la mui, I welcome to the fifth amendment and I get ready in the team of the prudent.
As things stand, the caution is an indispensable tool to survive in an environment like Spanish in which the leftovers are opinions. It's like silent is not an option and we were facing winding up the boneless sine die. Of course, if everyone is talking about what question is whether anyone is listening. Assault Asian power
By Fernando Mexia - Columnists , Economy , Juan Palop , Politics - 08/01/2010
Juan Palop, continues its Asian blog here
The year 2009 will be one of the decisive link-end-not the political assault from Asia to the highest echelons of world power. Since the time when the most populous continent began to have recognized their role in the international arena. The global economic crisis, which originated in the West and not as severe in the East, is largely to blame.
Examples are many. United States solved the fiasco of the Climate Change Summit in Copenhagen with four emerging countries, including China and India took the lead. At this meeting, the EU stagnant as only "reported" the final agreement, which will be added to without question the dull consensus. Other: the first official visit by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited Japan, China, South Korea and Indonesia. The first visit of a head of government to the White House in the Obama era starred Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Read the rest of this entry »
