THIS POST IS FOR THE PAST FORECASTS FOR OSCAR. LOOKING FOR A CURRENT DELIVERY MARCH 2010 CLICK ON THESE LINES. THANKS!
Columnists cinephiles The pen, Antonio Martin and Kubelick, along with special guest from New York film journalist David Valenzuela, place bets on who will take home a statuette at the upcoming Oscars, to be held on February 22 in Los Angeles. Some forecasts which also involved the author of this blog, Fernando Mexia.
Antonio Martin ,
Kubelick (follow his blog here )
David Valenzuela and
Fernando Mexia.
Best Picture:
As debate in Hollywood, the votes of the experts of the pen are inconclusive. The duel between revelation "Slumdog Millionaire" and "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" by the statuette for Best Picture last until the day of the ceremony.
Slumdog Millionaire "was the big surprise of the year" can leave you "stuck in the chair like laughing and mourn," said Valenzuela, for whom the film leaves you with the "feeling of seeing something new." My vote was also for this film because it has swept all the awards to date, over Benjamin Button. It seems the favorite.
However, Antonio Martin defended the drama starring Brad Pitt and hopes that the Academy will side "by heading home. It has magic, is known names is long ... many ingredients that appeal to those who vote, "he said. Although Martin does not believe that this film achieves any other major award.
Kubelick described the duel-Button Slumdog as an epic struggle of "David versus Goliath," the independent India against the U.S. blockbuster. Although everything points to the victory of "Slumdog Millionaire" for the analyst of the pen, she gives his vote to Benjamin Button under the Marshall-Kennedy tandem chemistry, veteran Hollywood producers Spielberg and allies in the saga of "Indiana Jones" or "ET", among others.
One trick that seems to start playing for Benjamin Button is, curiously, the excess of success of Slumdog Millionaire. After the bath awards, the American press has started to get hit to the story, which fails at the box office in India, and some accuse and to tiptoe by the poverty of the neighborhoods of Mumbai as an excuse to tell a touching story romantic.
Best Actress:
The Oscar has a name: Kate Winslet.
"I give it to Kate Winslet's about time" comment Kubelick and Valenzuela and they were right. The British short with " The Reader "his sixth nomination without even having won the statuette. She was convinced by his performance in that film nearly all the jurors, and is the favorite, except that this time competing with "The Reader" as actress and not as high as occurred in the Globe Gold or the SAG awards.
Valenzuela asked the Oscar for Winslet, "because Meryl Streep already has a couple of figures, although in his opinion the nomination should have been for "Revolutionary Road" .
Martin meanwhile is not so clear. "It's one of the most contested prizes, in my opinion. Winslet may take him, but give it back to the door in his face. And the story of a newcomer to the Oscars with a great performance ever strip, "he said referring to his chosen, Anne Hathaway.
For my part, I think it's time for Winslet and I consider her nomination for "The Reader" in the main category has been a wave of the Academy to ensure success and avoid the double hiciese starring actress and secondary education.
Best Actor:
Sean Penn has the edge in the forecasts of the pen, but only just because the vote has been fairly contested.
Valenzuela opted for Penn and his transformation into Harvey Milk. One interpretation of his hat certainly for this dedicated actor. I acknowledge that my vote was for the protagonist of "Mystic River" at the last moment, because I had planned to rely on Mickey Rourke for the same reasons that Martin has done: "Hollywood and resurrections, a story of endless love. Only Sean Penn could overshadow him, but people are accustomed to this key roles, "he said.
In these I was until I saw the actors themselves were favored by Penn in the rewards of their union. A sign that Rourke's return has not generated so much sympathy as you might assume.
Kubelick, however, the play by Jenkins, who without major campaigns and lockers has crept among the five best players of the year for the Academy.
"Several myths of Olympus film collected in this category: the ubiquitous Penn, the pluperfect Pitt, Langella luxury side and raised Rourke. What vertigo, almost better to move Six Feet Under tribute to the dead and more alive on TV. I admit, I would be thrilled to see the patriarch of the Fisher collect an Oscar, "said Kubelick.
Best Actress:
Only category in which there was consensus. Penelope Cruz will win the Oscar. No Winslet on the horizon to overshadow him and after harvest multiple critics awards in the U.S., "Wing" has the statuette to a caramel.
"In fairness, that Maria Elena Mediterranean suburban and glamorous is the only good of the tacky film (Vicky Cristina Barcelona) that has paid a holiday in Europe to the genius of Manhattan (Woody Allen). I hope the blessing of the side of Woody Allen and Penelope Cruz falls on that, like Wiest, Sorvino and Caine before her Oscar win and bring him to Spain to wear it. The press would then have to stop insinuating that it is more arrogant and exploited that good actress, start sweeping for home and sing their praises. I look forward to reporting Weekly Report (public television program of the Spanish): In Alcobendas to Sunset Boulevard, "said Kubelick.
In the same line and Martin Valenzuela spoke. "I think that shines both in the Allen movie because the rest is mediocre. Hopefully we can take him and tell. But Winslet's career has free rein. The opposite would be a surprise, "said Martin. "Still, this is the best Madrid has given the Spanish cinema. Cruz has been able to debut with Woody Allen on the floor and let Scarlett Johansson and Bardem himself, besides saving a movie that, if she does not appear, reporting would not travel a tad trite, "said Valenzuela.
Best Supporting Actor:
It might seem that the late Heath Ledger have an Oscar in his pocket, but the options of evil "Joker" to the statuettes may have reached some waterfalls. After all for more than a year of his death and many months since the release of the latest Batman sequel. For my part, I think your paper deserves the Oscar, but "The Dark Knight "has made in the shade other great performances.
Martin vehemently defends Ledger. "There is no possible argument or a matter of curiosity. Say what you will. Is this man out in this paper. " But Valenzuela believes Michael Shannon is above Australian actor fatalities. Convinced of the quality of "Revolutionary Road", this reporter believes that the interpretation of Shannon "alongside Winslet in this film by Sam Mendes, is the best of the year."
Kubelick however opted for Josh Brolin for "the most politically incorrect paper of 2008" and served as spokesman for the legion of moviegoers who doubt that Ledger would have won the Oscar without the "plus" that occurs in Hollywood that he died young: "would have won the award for Heath Ledger as the Joker character actor to be alive today? I doubt it. To collect prizes, Shannon Hoffman still has time and already have many. Will they go back the dead by the roll necrophiliac? Will we see another embarrassing standup ovation, in praise of the beautiful corpse? "He said.
Best Director:
Danny Boyle has won everything this year, do not think the Oscar will escape. In these are also Antonio Martin and David Valenzuela who believe that the British Academy award for "risk into the unknown without being aware of the great movie he was directing" (Valenzuela) and because Hollywood will be informed by the "touch 'indie'" (Martin).
"This kind of" City of God "made in India will have to settle for this award. And I loved, I love Boyle. But Fincher is likely to snatch it, "said Martin.
Not without some indignation, Kubelick attacked the choice of the Academy and chose David Fincher.
"Four of the five nominees this year are in my personal ranking of most overrated directors of all time, Stephen Daldry and Danny Boyle also occupy prominent places. The films with both shot to fame, the noventeras (is used as that term?) 'Trainspotting' (Boyle) and 'Billy Elliot' (Daldry) accumulate bonus points for the aggravation of opportunism generation. Gus Van Sant plummeted on my roster since critics vowed to copy the 'Psycho' shot to shot. Up and down on that list is also Ron Howard as give undeserved rewards (A Beautiful Mind) or not. The fifth of the directors vying for the Oscar this year tops another list very different "names essential to understanding the cinema of the past fifteen years."
Best Original Screenplay:
"I think this award should give to any writer who wants to go to Pixar picked up the Kodak Theatre. In the final analysis, animation or live action, these people are dedicated to telling stories. And for quite some time since his are always the funniest of the year, "he argued Kubelick in giving his vote to" Wall-E ". The film's lone robot in a postapocalyptic Earth fought to enter the nominations for best picture this year, but eventually had to content himself with the not inconsiderable best animated candidacy 2008, award win. In my view, the award of the script could be the extra recognition from the Academy for "Wall-E".
Antonio Martin preferred the touch "indie" in " Frozen River "and went for the victory Valenzuela" Mike Leigh, to see if the sixth time lucky and wins the Oscar at once with a film, "Happy-Go- Lucky ", which is able to reconcile with the higher life of bitter."
