"Up in the Air", an awesome movie
By Fernando Mexia - Cinema - 02/12/2009
Fernando Mexia, the pen.
Fortunately, once every so often, one goes to the movies and find something like "Up in the Air", a film exquisite in its simplicity, able to laugh and move equally, with a history
solid and believable, tender and careful, full of that indescribable magic that justifies the love of the cinema. "Up in the Air" is what comumente call "an awesome movie."
Hats off to Jason Reitman, director of 32 years responsible for the brilliant "Juno" (2006) for which she was nominated for an Oscar, which this time took over the project from his script, a success in view of the result .
"Up in the Air" is a story of solitude and independence, about love and disappointment, the harsh and beautiful reality of personal relationships and fear of compromise, individual fulfillment and false expectations, especially through the eyes employee of a company that is dedicated to do the dirty work for companies that outsource the task of firing staff. That guy is George Clooney, Clooney possibly the most sympathetic of his career, which humanizes the character of self-confident winner who has given so much revenue to date. I like TV!

RIP
A few months ago that killed Michael Crichton, author of best sellers and overheated imagination as insane arguments that bore Disclosure (what heterosexual male would protest if Demi Moore will swim into the neck?) Or Twister (¿chasing tornadoes is a profession?), As well the most profitable piece of resin in History (with permission of hashish, Jurassic Park box office grossed a whopping one billion dollars). All this is enough that I had declared eternal hatred, and yet, I will be forever grateful, because it was by Michael Crichton that I came out of the closet.
In my house when I was little, you liked the TV was, at best, a waste of time.
Do you read? The more the better, but hooked to a number was considered an offense against discipline. So I had to enjoy my love for Remington Steele in secret, thanks to the complicity of that first VHS and tape (the one we had) crushed, which annoyed the head as long disappeared behind the tongue. Even today, the crackle of cellophane gives me goosebumps, I remember your finger on the tracking button, and little by little, the lines that were disappearing ...
I thought that everything would be different university, but no. You could cast a quote from Woody Allen in every conversation and no one considered a geek. On the contrary, you were the coolest. But woe to you if you admit that occurred encendías the TV alone (group, were also allowed to watch football) for something else to be aware of the news or watch Blood Simple Cineclub in the morning. I know one who dared to recognize that in his time in high school, had taken a look at a chapter of Pharmacy guard, went immediately to become an intellectual pariah. Those were hard years.
One Tuesday the winter of 1996, created by Michael Crichton, ER appeared in prime time Spanish TV. I've never seen anything like it. Since I ripped the credits could not take his eyes off the screen. The camera was flying, literally, in the halls of County General in Chicago. Like the nerd named Carter tried not affaire between the incessant activity and information overload. I knew the theory but as the resident rookie, was about to lose her virginity and face the real world: performance, dialogues, direction, lighting, fabric, art direction, characters, materialized and combined with agility, performance, risk, transgression, elegance, neatness, naturalness. No doubt, this was the perfect series. I was ecstatic. Emboldened by the euphoria, the next day in the middle of a gathering of brainy pens, as a suicide battalion of the integrated culture, proudly declare: "I like the TV".
Boy, have things changed since then. Today, for example, having a grandparent is pasadísimo Republican, now it takes is to assume that in the nineties, none could detach from Twin Peaks. I confess that I never got the least so rare dwarf, so surreal sentence and both side of West Side Story. Of all the series that have passed through my life ER was perhaps the most crucial and undoubtedly the longest so far. Spanish Television insisted from the outset that ours does not work, changing the broadcast times and removing without notice. I, as the suffering wife of a doctor, waiting for a new meeting anxious, awake late into the morning.
After ten years, things cooled. Not that I do not like it but circumstances change much. Revolution broke out, and the overnight was that we did not have to be subject to the dictatorship of the television. Series began to appear everywhere, fresh, sweeping, and many were single facade, it is true, but soon realized. The flesh is weak and the first five minutes were so strong ... I was seduced.
Continue knowing her for what she read and what I had. Far from getting lost like tears in the rain, the good times I spent with ER again now, just when his life is extinguished, as cuts in an album. Collected, a handful of television feats: a mockumentary broadcast live (twice on the same night: one for the East Coast, one for the west coast), an episode like "Memento", built on small sections that from the final summary of the story, an exciting kidnapping in which a Scotsman called Ewan McGregor has us without leaving a small shop, and with a heavy heart for 45 minutes narrative virtuosity exercises where the principle of one day guard runs parallel to the end of the night ... the same day. On another page, a deaf child to cure the pride of Benton, a schizophrenic who opens a channel to Lucy, a helicopter Romano amputated arm, a small terminal to which Doug relieved by adequate doses of morphine, a firefighter who teaches Weaver is healthy to be gay, the birth of the twins Carol, the death of Marc ...
In short, things that happen in a hospital.
Rest in peace.
PS What cluelessness!, I almost forgot to mention that ER, as everyone knows, the general public found an actor who spent years defending side on TV and, thanks to its passage by the County General, saw off a brilliant career: indeed, William H. Macy has a lot to thank ER
