Wolf middling
By Fernando Mexia - Cinema - 10/02/2010
Universal's attempt to resurrect the classic werewolf for the XXI century is as little disappointing, if not a failure. "The Wolfman" does not hold or by intrigue, or his terror, nor by their emotions going, a "roll patatero". Of course when the baby was ill recently given birth may be asked, even though one would hypnotize the strong lineup with Anthony Hopkins, Benicio del Toro, Emily Blunt and Hugo Weaving, who probably will be willing to move on after this experience.
From the outside it is difficult to explain that the film has been so matrecha despite having the screenplay by David Self (Road to Perdition) and Andrew Kevin Walker (Se7en). Nor can it be cast all the blame on the director, Joe Johnston, who although not Coppola, Spielberg or Scorsese and let us titles like "Jumanji", it has shown that they can be managed on land and create great stress and fast paced action. Johnston in fact joined the project at the last minute to replace Mark Romanek. Read the rest of this entry »
Avatarizate!
By Fernando Mexia - Cinema - 29/01/2010
As a fan of "Avatar" I am, I could not resist the temptation to spend myself for the blue filter of the film. You can follow my example and join a community of neighbors of Pandora using this simple application. Possibly this is the freakiest post of my "career" blogger. Because I'm worth.
Avatar, a film from another galaxy
By Fernando Mexia - Cinema - 18/12/2009
Fernando Mexia, the pen.
I saw Avatar on Monday (Dec. 14) and even shock me hard at the time of writing this post. The film is spectacular and revolutionary visual phenomenon in itself. Some people criticize the script, definitely
further improved the film, but I think the staging is so great and the action is so accomplished that compensates for any weakness argumentative. Avatar makes you enjoy the film and as a child. See her again now and it lasts more than two hours.
After Titanic, Terminator and Aliens, James Cameron returned with his most ambitious project backed by $ 300 million and which employ more than four years of work exclusively, colossal figures even for Hollywood. The money and time spent are the results on the screen.
A priori it might seem a movie for an audience fond of special effects, explosions and science fiction, mostly male (statistics advance ticket sales in the U.S. indicate that 75 percent of buyers are men), but Avatar is a work to be studied in film history and it is a must for any fan of cinema. I went to see it with my wife, not suspected of being excited with films of this style, and left happy. We both want to go on vacation next year to Pandora. Read the rest of this entry »
2012, the most ambitious film Apocalypse
By Fernando Mexia - Cinema - 13/11/2009
Fernando Mexia, the pen.
Director Roland Emmerich introduces its most ambitious apocalypse " 2012 ", a film that far surpasses the destruction of" The Day After Tomorrow "(2004) and" Independence Day "(1996), but lacks the" charisma "of them. This time, the film sweeps map-based civilization megavolcanes, abysmal earthquake and tsunami of biblical proportions that only a lucky few survive.
As in previous productions, Emmerich commitment to the triumph of heroism before the calamity and moral conflict arises as to who saved from disaster when governments can only offer refuge to a select few.
There is no shortage solemn speeches to emphasize the patriotic epic of a film in which Americans turn to lead the global decision-making in times of crisis, a la "Independence Day". In fact, Emmerich rescues the mood of that film and accentuates it, making the dramatic scenes are interleaved with humorous comments that ultimately dissipate the tension of time then try to recover with a new catharsis finmundista. The concert that never happened
By Fernando Mexia - Film , Entertainment , Music - 28/10/2009

This is it is a gift for fans of Michael Jackson, a document of interest to music lovers and a feature film of 111 minutes that never should have gone from being a DVD extra, but the circumstances rule. The "King of Pop" died and 100 hours of recording in Los Angeles test developed by decree in the last testimony of the talented and controversial visual artist. That, however, does not guarantee a good documentary or a good film, as much a good video of a concert, and that's what we have here: This is it.
Besides devotions, idolatries and cheers that derive from the film grounded in the legacy of this great music and applause in his memory, the real magic of the film is in the hands of Kenny Ortega and his team, capable of editing from a product worthy of a picture puzzle recorded without script. Ortega himself something called "mosaic" and miraculously manages to keep the attention of respectable despite the lack of plot. Read the rest of this entry »
Totum revolutum
By Fernando Mexia - Cinema - 07/10/2009

Many films in the pipeline and lack of time, a combination that has led me to write this post. No more condensed and brief reviews are worse. Here's my review of Law Abiding Citizen, Zombieland, The Informant and The Hurt Locker.
Law Abiding Citizen:
Entertaining film that is halfway to being a great psychological thriller. His reminiscences of Seven, Hannibal Lecter and smack his superlative spirit of revenge are combined with less success than desirable in a web of variable voltage with a cruelty that goes from anguish to laugh, which suggests a standard product " B "with good intentions and big name actors or a failed attempt to awesome movie. I'll take the psychopath played by Gerard Butler and a good time to popcorn and soda.
Zombieland:
Make no mistake, this is a comedy from start to finish. Its peculiarity is that the subject of ridicule is a society devoured by zombies in the surviving few who deal with the situation as best as possible. I am surprised by the excellent reviews it has received the tape in the U.S. because the film, honest in its staging, no more than a "Scary Movie" of the zombie genre. I'm not saying it is bad in itself, but who is not attached to the issue should not go to movies expecting an unforgettable show. Is fun, but that's it (not recently). Ideal for those wanting to get away from your routine with this smiling cocktail of blood "light." Read the rest of this entry »
Moore is repeated
By Fernando Mexia - Film , Economics , Politics - 28/09/2009
Fernando Mexia, the pen.
Capitalism: A Love Story is a documentary that is worth while not the best productions of Moore, is possibly one of the weakest. For over two hours of film director describes this critical recent abuses of Wall Street, the goings on in Washington to save the banks, impunity,
suffering of citizens unable to pay your mortgage and other injustices usually included in the incomprehensible fine print of financial contracts in the best. A recent story told, and for an audience that goes to the movies and outraged at how the current economic and social system in the U.S. and that Moore is unable to offer much news.
The argument fluctuates interest actions in the stock market, shame uncovers some little-known banks but uses headlines, stock photography, roll again for Bush's guilt and clings to the "Yes we can" Obama.
Moore returns in this film his favorite subject (after Bush): large corporations and their schemes for world domination, an argument that touched on his debut Roger & Me (1986), The Big One (1997), Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004) and Sicko (2007), although with less freshness than usual. Trailer: Inception. Christopher Nolan + DiCaprio
By Fernando Mexia - Videos - 28/08/2009
Inception, the mysterious head of production work of the last Batman, Christopher Nolan, introduced his trailer on the few clues that reveal the plot of this story looking like a psychological thriller from "The Cube", "The Matrix" and "Memento" with Leonardo DiCaprio starring. The premiere was not until the summer of 2010. Until then we are left with these images with balance problems. One would think that Cameron's Titanic sinks again ... Read the rest of this entry »
